This is a popular fundraiser organized by the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Church. Philoptochos mean “friend of the poor”. All proceeds will go to benefit charities, many of which are local to our community. They are a very good group and I love supporting them!
The opening reception is Saturday, January 19th,
5-8:30 pm. This show runs concurrently with the Crocker Kingsley show, so you are in for a memorable night of art!
We're having a fab show at the Blue Line Arts on Saturday January 19th. It's called Fake It! All the artists have painted reproductions of famous paintings, some with their own added spin! There are 32 artists who've been invited to show and I'm excited to be one of them! They're all really great artists and I can't wait to see what they've painted for the show.
The piece I'm showing was originally painted by post Impressionist painter Raoul Dufy in 1943. It's always been one of my favorite paintings and I've always wanted to paint it! I'm not going to tell you the title or include a picture of it because I want it to be a surprise!
Reproducing a master painting is a great experience for an artist and a great way to learn. I've done many reproductions (a couple of Monet's, a Cezanne, and even an Edward Hopper!) and I've always learned so much doing them. First I read as much about the artist and his life as I can, and then while painting, it can almost be a mystical experience while you walk in their shoes re-creating the painting.
The receptions are lots of fun with great refreshments and live music!
If you can't make the opening reception, there will be a closing reception on Saturday February 16, 5 - 8:30 pm, or visit the gallery during its regular hours (Tuesday & Thursday 11am-5pm and Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 11am-3pm).
See you there!
